Patients like Jade need our help. At first, 4-year-old Jade’s symptoms were misdiagnosed as a urinary tract infection. The correct diagnosis was much more serious — Jade had kidney cancer. By the time she was diagnosed with stage IV Wilms tumor, her right kidney had been completely taken over by the tumor. She also had spots on her lungs and a blood clot in a major vein that carries blood to her heart. At Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, Jade had a 10-hour surgery, as well as 30 cycles of chemotherapy, eight radiation treatments and countless blood transfusions. Along the way the Arts in Healing program, which is funded by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals donations, provided Jade with hours of soothing activities like music therapy, art therapy and Beads of Courage. Her family describes Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital as their “saving grace” during Jade’s cancer treatment, especially since they could stay close to home with their other three children. Now 8 and cancer free, Jade is a social butterfly who loves to spend time with friends.

And Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital couldn’t help kids like Jade without the generosity of millions of customers and members who shop in their stores and online.
