Costco is Helping Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital Change Kids’ Health May 1-31!

Local children’s hospitals are on the frontlines when protecting the health of future generations. But they can’t do it alone. Each dollar that Costco and its members raise through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) improves kids’ health, allowing them to grow to their full potential.

In May, you can help to change kids’ health for local children’s hospitals through CMN Hospitals during the annual Costco fundraising campaign. Shop online or in-warehouse at Costco, donate to help kids like Abigail. During a prenatal anatomy scan, doctors saw that Abigail’s heart was not developing correctly. Once Abigail was born via cesarean delivery at Sacred Heart, she immediately went to the NICU. At 4 days old, she had a heart catheter procedure to try and correct the heart defect; at that point, it was a waiting game to see if the procedure “worked” or not. Unfortunately, she needed a more aggressive intervention so when she was just 18 days old, Abigail underwent open-heart surgery. After surgery, Abigail was transferred to the PICU to recover and that was when she started getting stronger! She had a heart that was finally doing what it needed to do… it just took a little extra work to get there. When Abigail was 27 days old, we were able to finally take her home for the first time and snuggle her without tubes, wires, and monitors in the way! Since her surgery, Abigail has had one additional heart procedure and PICU stay and she has been doing really well. She continues to have check-ups with her cardiologist and as she grows, more procedures or surgeries will occur. It is all just a waiting game to see how her heart continues to develop.

Thanks to donations through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Abigail’s family could see her through NICVIEW cameras funded by donations when they couldn’t physically be there.

The Costco fundraising campaign runs through May 31, where funds go to local children’s hospitals through CMN Hospitals to directly help kids Abigail in our community. Since 1987, Costco employees and members have donated more than $4 million for kids treated at Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.
